Kingston, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) — The Jamaica Minister of Education, Senator Ruel Reid is expressing condolences to the families and victims of the Florida school shooting, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
Senator Reid, who also was a long-standing past high school principal, said in a press release sent by his Ministry of Education that as an educator he empathises with the victims, parents, teachers, survivors, employees, the school district and the community who are no doubt left hurt by this tragic shooting.
Min. Reid added that, as a father to teens himself, he is urging all parents to affirm their children, especially their adolescents, with love, teach them discipline and how to resolve conflict without resorting to violence.
Ruel Reid commended the teachers of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, who hid students in closets to keep them safe during the ordeal. “Undoubtedly these teachers and administrators are true heroes,” the minister said.
Florida School Shooting: Minister Reid said in press release that he received information that the Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools, Mr Robert W Runcie is a Jamaican and that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is one of the schools in his district.
The minister said he is offering his support, thoughts and prayers to Mr Runcie and his team.
“There is a large Jamaican population in Broward County and no doubt they too have been deeply affected by the tragedy,” he said.
