J$ Hits New Low at $147.13 to US$1

The Jamaican dollar has opened at a new low today, Thursday, May 14, selling at J$147.13 to one US dollar.

The dollars slide is continuing since mid-April. Last week it breached the $146 to US$1 value, even after intervention by the Bank of Jamaica.

The country’s main sources of foreign exchange – tourism, the Business processing Outsourcing sector and remittances — have been hit hard by COVID-19.
