International Women’s Day unfolds on Wednesday, March 8th, 2017, inside the Emancipation Park, New Kingston; under the theme” Be ready for Change March,” with the Brothers in full partnership to end Violence against women and children.
International Woman’s Day which was conceived on March, 8th, 1978, jointly by People’s National Party Women Movement and the Committee of Women for Progress, has been celebrated since then throughout the Island of Jamaica.
The event will be staged under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports, in conjunctions with the Aid Healthcare foundation. The event kicks off at 4:00 pm with a march from the emancipation park and will travel along Trafalgar road and back to the emancipation park for the grand finale, starting 6:00 pm!
A large contingent of to Jamaican female Artists will headline this massive event:
Marcia Griffith, OD; Judy Mowatt; Carlene Davis-McGowan; Nadine Sutherland, Queen Ifrica, Etana, Sister Pat among others. They will be backed by the all-female band, Adahzeh.
A number of male Reggae acts will also be sharing the stage with their female counterpart, namely, Bounty Killer, Tony Rebel, and Tarrus Riley.
Mckoy’s News was reliably informed that several artists (both old and young upcoming entertainers) have pledged their support in (songs) to end this wanton and barbaric act against the women and children, whose lives are constantly being cut short by the hands of a few evil men in the midst.
Ruff Kutt Reggae Band will do the honour, while master of ceremonies duties will be done by the Comedians duo, Ity and the Fanciest Cat.
This year’s International Women’s Day is expected to draw a large turn out from the female groupings, because of the many abused, murder, intimidation, rape, discrimination, both at home and in the workplaces.
International Women’s day will be celebrated from March 6th, through to the 12th, 2017. This year’s celebration is also expected to see many activities taking place all over the island.
