Jamaica News: Three health and children-related institutions will benefit from the proceeds of the 21st staging of the Sigma Corporate Run, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 17 in the Corporate Area, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The institutions are the May Pen Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Lupus Foundation of Jamaica and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica.
Speaking at the launch at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston on January 9, Chairman, Sagicor Foundation, R. Danny Williams, said the event is aiming to raise $52 million for the beneficiaries.
“This is a big goal, but with your help I know we can achieve it. We are looking forward once again to the support of corporate Jamaica and our kind sponsors and donors to rally around us and take us beyond the finish line,” he said.
He said the beneficiaries are “all causes near and dear to us at Sagicor, and we know that the benefit to these organisations will be tremendous with so many lives being positively impacted”.
Representatives from the beneficiary institutions were appreciative that they were selected, noting that their services will be strengthened to care for persons in need.
Last year, the Sagicor Sigma Run raised $50 million in cash and kind for the St. Christopher’s School for the Deaf and the Spanish Town Hospital Neonatal Unit. The race continues to be the largest road race in the Caribbean, with a record number of over 26,000 participants running, walking and wheeling for a good cause.
Since 1999, the Sigma Corporate Run has raised $350 million, which has benefited more than 20 health and children-related institutions. They also work closely with the beneficiaries to identify and acquire vital equipment and to design sustainable plans for the items provided.
Entry fees and donations go directly to the beneficiaries, while the cost of the event is underwritten by the Sagicor Foundation and its partners and sponsors.
Registration is now open, and individuals, companies and groups can sign up to participate, on the company’s Sigma Corporate Run website at www.sagicorsigmarun.com. Registration closes on February 1.
In addition to money earned from registration, persons can contribute to the fundraising efforts by donating via the website, direct deposit to Sagicor Foundation Jamaica Sigma Run 2019 JMD
