Montego Bay, St James (McKoy’s News) – Illegal Charges: The trial against Senior Superintendent of Police Anthony Castell and a District Constable has now started in the St James Parish Court and the process is being supervised by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the entity behind the charges laid against both men.
The officers were charged with unlawful wounding and unlawful discharge of firearm following a shooting incident which occurred in Montego Bay, St James in January of 2016 and which left a female nursing gunshot wounds.
Reports are that in January 2016 the District Constable was among a team of police officers carrying out Vehicular Spot Checks in the second city under the supervision of SSP Castell in Montego Bay.
The officers ordered the driver of a taxi motor car to stop in the region of Westgate but the driver failed to comply and sped away. The policemen gave chase and after reaching a section of Mount Salem main road, several rounds were discharged by the policemen into the vehicle which led to the female passenger being shot.
Following the incident, an investigation was carried out by INDECOM and SSP Castell and the District Constable were charged. They are scheduled to reappear for trial on September 22, 2017.
