Controversy is growing over the allocation of Government Land, in St Elizabeth, to a company in which the mother of one of the children of Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Agriculture, J.C. Hutchinson is involved.
The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has called for an investigation by the Integrity Commission. It says reports indicated that a “paramour” of Mr Hutchinson was involved in getting land for lease that had not been put up for tender and was an example of cronyism.
The lands are at Government-owned, formerly under sugar at Holland in the North West St Elizabeth Constituency of Mr Hutchinson.
He has now admitted in a release, Tuesday afternoon, that Nola Marshall Williams is the mother of one of his children. He says she was a director and shareholder of Holland Producers Ltd, to whom the lands were leased and has resigned in the interest of the important project going ahead. He said she was elected to represent farmers in her own right and not because of any association with him. Mr Hutchinson says Mrs Williams is also a member of his constituency executive.
