Latest Jamaica News, Hanover: The twinning of the parish of Hanover with the city of Huangshi in China, is set to take place in Lucea on Monday morning.

The ceremony will be held at the Hanover Municipal Corporation’s conference room in the capital town, at 9:00 am.

The date has been confirmed for a delegation of six from Huangshi in the Peoples Republic of China to visit the Hanover Municipal Corporation to explore the possibilities of bilateral exchange with special emphasis on agriculture and commerce,” explained Mayor of Lucea and Chairman of the Hanover Municipal Corporation, Sheridan Samuels.

The mayor says the Chinese delegation will arrive in Jamaica on Sunday, July 21 and depart on Tuesday, July 23.

Monday’s ceremony will be followed by a tour of sections of the parish to look to areas for investment, including a farm visit in Green Island and a visit to the historic Fort Charlotte in Lucea.  The following day the Chinese will head to the Dolphin Head Mountains for an excursion, in keeping with the cultural exchange thrust.

The twinning idea was the brainchild of Deputy Mayor of Lucea Andria Dehaney-Dinham, who engaged in discussions with the governors of Huangshi whilst on a visit to China.

Huangshi is located in the southeast of Hubei province and on the south bank of the middle reach of Yangtze River, between Jiujiang city in Jiangxi province and Wuhan city.   It is one of the important old industrial bases and ports in China.
Huangshi city is regarded as “a treasure bow in the south of Yangtze River”, which is also the originating place of Chinese bronze culture.  It is a national economic and technological development area since 2010 and much of its energies has been devoted to developing electronic information, manufacturing and biomedicine.

The city is regarded as a magnet for major investors.  Leading enterprises such as G&D of Germany, CETH of France, LVD of Belgium as well as Baosteel, Tsingdao Beer and 999 Medicine have all invested in the Huangshi Economic and Technical Development Zone.
