Jamaica News, March 19, 2018 – Hanover Police Increase Security Presence

Hanover, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – The Hanover police have now increased patrols and post a large contingency of officers throughout the community of Haughton Court and its surrounding areas, following an incident which occurred in the community on Friday night, where armed robbers challenged the police in a shootout and left behind two illegal firearms.

In the meanwhile, the lawmen stated that they are now carrying out searches for the men who they learnt are not from the community.

Reports are that shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, the Lucea and Kingsvale police were alerted by residents that a group of armed men were carrying out several robberies at a section of Haughton Court, in the Kingsvale policing area known as Todd Peace.

The Lucea police swiftly dispatched several units in the area and on reaching a section of the roadway, the lawmen came upon a group of four armed men.  On seeing the police approaching. the gunmen opened fire and challenged them in a heated gun battle. During the shooting, the gunmen were seen making their escape in bushes.

Following a search of the area, the lawmen stumbled upon two illegal firearms which were reportedly dropped by the gunmen.  A .380 Smith and Wesson Pistol , one 9mm and one .380 cartridge along with a Taurus 9-mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with 17 live 9mm rounds were seized.

The police have also pointed out that this incident is being treated with urgency, based on the fact that during the course of last year the Kingsvale policing area has recorded a number of brutal murders and several of these killings also took place in Malcolm Heights.
