Latest Jamaica News, Hanover: The official Inter-city Friendship between the Hanover Municipal Corporation and the Huangshi Municipal People’s Government of China was sealed at an official signing ceremony at the Lucea Town Hall this morning (Monday, July 22).
The formalization of the relationship came just over a year after Deputy Mayor of Lucea Andria Dehaney-Dinham, engaged in discussions with the governors of Huangshi about establishing a relationship with her home parish, whilst on a visit to China.
The Chinese delegation of six arrived in Jamaica yesterday (Sunday, July 21) and will return to the far east tomorrow. The group is being led by vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Huangshi People’s Congress, Wang Bin. He is accompanied by the tem which includes Wang Jia, Vice Director, Huangshi Bureau of Commerce; Zeng Faliang; Vice Director Huangshi Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Vice Secretary-General Standing committee of Huangshi Municipal People’s Congress, Tang Xuesheg.
In his address, Mayor of Lucea and Chairman of the Hanover Municipal Corporation, Sheridan Samuels, reiterated that the bilateral exchange between the two territories will have a special emphasis on agriculture and commerce.
“Hanover has already been ready for development. In my view, Hanover is the pearl of Jamaica. We have some of the ripest land spaces ready for agricultural purposes. We have some of the best and largest hotels…Vice-Chairman Bin, I hope one day we can have a Chinese hotel too,” the Mayor told the Vice-Chairman.
The Mayor also lauded the Chinese business operators in the town whom he said have been good corporate citizens.
“We have some of the best, smartest, kindest and friendliest Chinese business operators in the parish and some are with us today. I can tell you that they have been so supportive to the Hanover Municipal Corporation,” he said.
In responding, Wang Bin told the gathering via translator, that he was happy to make the trip to Lucea and was looking forward to hosting the mayor and his team in a reciprocal visit in Huangshi very soon.
“We want to work with the Hanover government to complement each other by developing this friendship and develop our communities together,” he said.
The Chinese visit will end tomorrow following a business meeting on areas of corporation and investment, between the two municipalities and a tour of sections of the parish. The meeting will be preceded by a visit to the Maryland school greenhouse and a visit to the historic Fort Charlotte in Lucea.
The city of Huangshi is located in the southeast of Hubei province and on the south bank of the middle reach of Yangtze River, between Jiujiang city in Jiangxi province and Wuhan city. It is one of the important old industrial bases and ports in China.
Huangshi city is regarded as “a treasure bow in the south of Yangtze River”, which is also the originating place of Chinese bronze culture. It is a national economic and technological development area since 2010 and much of its energies has been devoted to developing electronic information, manufacturing and biomedicine.
The city is regarded as a magnet for major investors. Leading enterprises such as G&D of Germany, CETH of France, LVD of Belgium as well as Baosteel, Tsingdao Beer and 999 Medicine have all invested in the Huangshi Economic and Technical Development Zone.
