St James, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Woman Before Court for Handbag StolenA woman accused of stealing another woman’s handbag, had her case deferred to September to allow her time to secure the services of a lawyer.

Vanessa Samuels appeared before the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday to face a charge of simple larceny.

The particulars of the allegations were not outlined in details but the court heard that Samuels stole the woman’s handbag containing her cell phone, wipes and a quantity of cash.

“Do you intend to get a lawyer?” Judge Wong-Small asked the accused.

“If I have to do so, I will,” replied Samuels.

It’s a matter for you ma’am,” the judge then said.

“Do you need time to get a lawyer,” the judge asked again.

“Yes ma’am,” said Samuels.

The judge then instructed Samuels to visit the Legal Aid office to be assisted with legal representation before setting the matter for mention on September 21 when a trial date will be set.
