Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: One man who reported challenged the security forces in a shootout at a section of Denham Town, in West Kingston on Wednesday, April 24, was shot and killed and an illegal firearm was taken from him.
The identity of the slain gunman has not yet been released by the police.
Reports by the Denham Town police are that on Wednesday morning, a team of officers were on patrol at a section of the community, when they heard gunshots being fired.
The lawmen went to investigate and saw the man running with a firearm in his hand. He was confronted and he opened fire at the police.
The fire was returned and during the shootout, the gunman was shot and killed. A 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing several rounds of ammunition was taken from him.
