An eighth-grade student who attends the Green Pond High School in St James, is among two persons shot and killed during a drive-by shooting which took place outside a Hamburger outlet in Norwood, St James, on Friday night, July 25.
The slain student has been identified as 14-year-old Javaun Stansbury, otherwise called ‘Ricky’ of Lime Tree Lane, and 22-year-old Kevin Madourie, otherwise called ‘Wingy’ of Hacka Lane, and both in Norwood.
An 18-year-old youth who was also shot and injured in the incident, still remains at Hospital in stable condition.
Reports by the police are that shortly after 11:00 pm, Javaun and his friend were sitting on the steps outside the Burger shop along Sammy Drive in community, when a group of men travelling onboard a motor car drove to the community.
The occupants on board the vehicle brandished firearms and sprayed the area with bullets, hitting Javaun, the other teenage boy, and the other man.
The gunmen then sped away and made their escape in a motor car, followed by which all three victims were rushed to hospital, where Javaun and the other man were pronounced dead, and the injured teen treated at hospital.
Residents in Norwood say Javaun was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and that they believe Madourie was the intended target.
In the meanwhile, Jalain Clarke, mother of the slain student, said Javaun was her only child, and his death has knocked her off her feet.
Clarke said her son was a very jovial, friendly, very good chef, and the most fun-filled young man you could ever meet.
