Green Pond, Cambridge are Sandals Football Champions

Latest Jamaica News, St James (McKoy’s News): Sandals Football Champions Green Pond and Cambridge were crowned champions of the Sandals sponsored Under 17, and Under 20 football competition on Saturday, August 31. In the finals played on Saturday at the UDC Football Field in Montego Bay, Green Pond stopped Bogue 1-0, while in the highly contested under 20 competition Cambridge came away winners after both teams played to a exciting nil all and extra time draw.

It was decided on penalties, where Cambridge scored all their five spot kicks, while Flankers converted only two of their spot kicks. For their win, Green pond collects a trophy plus $50,000 and some books, while Cambridge collects $100,000 plus a trophy and some books. Omar Kelvin of Green Pond was voted leading goal scorer for the under 17, and Zelford Vaccianno the MVP, over in the under 20 competition the leading goal scorer award went to Shackeel West of Cambridge with eight goals to his credit with Aldane Ottey as the under 20 MVP. Crissano Dalley public relation manager for Sandals was on hand along with St James FA president Gregory Daley to hand out the prizes.
