Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: The Grange police say they have now apprehended and laid criminal charges on a Westmoreland man, who was caught on camera last week Thursday, May 3, violently beating his teenage daughter with a machete.
The accused who the police say has since been charged with Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm, has been identified as, Joseph Arthur of a Revival District also in the parish.
Our news team also learnt that, the incident was brought to the attention of the CDA and Detectives attached to the Grange Hill Police Department who launched an investigation, as well as, launched a search for the accused.
It is reported that, following the spate of shootings in the area on Tuesday and the seven persons killed, all schools in the area were closed for the day.
All students were sent home from various institutions which include the Grange Hill High School where the student attends.
It is further reported that, Arthur was in fact the father of the student he is seen beating with the machete.
Upon hearing that school was not in session, he reportedly went in search of the child and learnt that she was seen in Burnt Savannah which is a distance from where she resides.
Arthur caught up with his daughter who was inside an internet cafe and ordered her out. Upon walking from the Café, the accused man used a machete to beat her while using a barrage of expletives at her.
This second incident has come following a similar attack on a female child by her mother in another parish. The mother was also caught on camera beating her child with a machete in the said manner.
She too was subsequently arrested and criminal charges were laid against her.
