Jamaica News: More contributors of the National Housing Trust (NHT) are to benefit from measures by the Government to increase access to homeownership.
This was disclosed by Governor-General, His Excellency, the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, while delivering the Throne Speech to open the new session of Parliament in Gordon House on Thursday (February 14) under the theme ‘In Partnership towards the new Prosperous Jamaica.’
He noted that by providing greater access to funding and bringing additional projects to market, homeownership will become a reality for more Jamaicans in the 2019/20 fiscal year and beyond.
The Governor-General said that the NHT will review its construction management processes; redesign/enhance its customer-facing systems; and implement an improved contributions accounting management system.
He noted that the NHT Strategic Review, which has been tabled in Parliament, will be debated this year to inform the approach to the housing sector.
Commissioned by the Prime Minister in July 2016 and completed in November 2017, the Strategic Review is aimed at assessing and improving the operations of the agency.
