Fraser-Pryce Opens Season with 200m Win at Velocity Fest 8 Meet

Two-time 100m Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opened her 2021 season on a winning note after securing the women’s 200m in 23.19 seconds at the Velocity Fest 8 Meet in the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Fraser-Pryce, the Moscow 2013 world sprint double champion, running in section two of the women’s 200m, was comfortable in winning the race, stopping the clock at 23.19 seconds, while running into a headwind of -1.6 m/s ahead of 400m specialist Stephenie-Ann McPherson of MVP who was second in 23.47s and Ronda Whyte of Sprintec was third in 23.49s.

Meanwhile, MVP’s Janieve Russell won the women’s 400m with a time of 51.77 seconds after going out fast and holding off Candice McLeod of UWI Mona down the home straight. McLeod finished strongly for second with a 51.94 personal best.

The Velocity Fest event was the third meet for seniors this year.
