Jamaica Crime News, St James: The Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) say it has issues with the way in which the 19-firearms and the large quantity of assorted ammunition which were stolen from a security company in Montego Bay, St James, were stored.
Shane Dalling, Chairman of the FLA says he will not comment much on the situation as it is under investigation, but if the investigation proved that there was negligence, actions will be taken against the person who licensed the weapons.
Investigators say the incident took place between 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, and that no security personnel was being used to stand guard at the company.
Reports are that about 12:00 noon on Thursday, the 67-year-old, Director of the security company which is located on the compound of Ironshore Estate in Ironshore, Montego Bay, filed a report that he securely locked up the office and left the compound.
Upon his return on Friday, about 6:00 p.m., he discovered that several padlocks used to lock the grills and doors, both on the inside and the outside of the building were cut away. Further investigations revealed that, the metal safe containing the company firearms was forced open.
It was discovered that the robbers made off with four shot-guns, fifteen .38 revolvers, along with an undetermined amount of 12-gauge and .38 rounds of ammunition.
The robbers also stole 3 motorcycles, 2-desktop computers, along with the recording device attached to the CCTV system.
