Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: Our news team has learnt that, five men who the St Catherine police labeled as gang members and who were taken into custody during several operations carried out across the parish in the month of June, are expected to be transported back to the parish of St James during the course of the weekend.
The Freeport police have indicated that these men are affiliated with the ‘Sparta gang” which operates out of Flankers community in Montego Bay and are fingered in numerous crimes which include shooting and murder.
Following the capture of the men in the second week of June, Superintendent of Police in charge of St Catherine South Division, Leighton Grey, reported that, several joint military operations led to the arrest of dozens of gang members who hail from across the parishes of western Jamaica.
According to Superintendent Grey, of the men taken into custody, Five were identified to be part of St James based “Sparta gang” which operates out of Flankers in Montego Bay and seven based in West Kingston.
Several are also from the parishes of Westmoreland and St Andrew Central while another group hail from Spanish Town and sections of Old Harbor.
Superintendent Grey who was speaking at a function which was held at the St Catherine Municipal Corporation further stated that these men are being held under the Anti Gang Legislation.
