Westmoreland, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Fire Kills Elderly One-Legged Woman: firefighters attached to the Westmoreland Fire Department and investigators from the Morgan’s Bridge Police station are now carrying out investigations to determine the origin of a fire which claimed the life of an elderly one-legged woman in the parish on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Monica Kerr, 75-year-old of Camp Savannah Mountain in Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
Reports from the Morgans Bridge Police are that shortly after 10:00 am on Monday, January 29, residents living in Camp Savannah Mountain were alarmed after they saw fire coming from the directions of Ms Kerr’s House.
Upon reaching the area they discovered that the six apartment board and concrete structured dwelling was on fire.
The residents alerted the fire department and then made several attempts to put out the blaze themselves but they were unsuccessful.
A number of the residents managed to kick open a door and discovered Kerr’s burnt body on the inside.
Upon the arrival of the firefighters, cooling down operations were carried out on the building and then the burnt body of the deceased was removed and pronounced dead at the Sav la mar hospital.
Fire Kills Elderly One-Legged Woman: residents in the community say Kerr has been living alone for quite a while and only it is only some time ago that she lost one of her legs.
Many persons gathered in shock at the death of the long-standing community members.
