Fire at Holiday Inn Sun Spree resort

A fire of unknown origin completed destroyed the maintenance house and workshop at the Holiday Inn Sun Spree resort located at Rosehall in Montego Bay, on Friday night, March 1.

A source at the St James fire department related that the fire has left damages believed to be estimated at several million dollars, but they are unable to give a specific estimate at this early time.

Reports are that shortly after 8:25 p.m., the fire was seen coming from a section of the car park. The fire quickly spread and completely destroyed the maintenance housing and workshop building which is located in the vicinity of the car park area.

One female security guard was seen being transported to the hospital after she suffered respiratory problems, while several containers and motor vehicles which were parked in the area were also severely damaged.

The firemen responded to the call about 8:30 p.m., on their arrival they spent over half an hour battling the blaze. After the fire was extinguished the maintenance housing and the workshop was completely destroyed.

A team of officers attached to the Coral Gardens police station and investigators from the St James fire department has returned to the location on Saturday to continue their investigations into the origin of the fire.
