Additional information is emerging as to what may have prompted 53-year-old farmer Leroy Lewinson to purportedly commit suicide in Matinee district, Clarendon, on Monday, November 26.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is now confirming that Lewinson, who is a resident of Top Quarter in Smithville, Clarendon, allegedly chopped his wife several times prior to the suspected suicide.

It explained: “About 7:30pm on Monday, November 26, Lewinson and his wife had a dispute and he used a machete to inflict wounds all over her body before fleeing the scene. The police were summoned and his wife taken to hospital where she was admitted.”

The JCF further stated that about 7:30 am on the following day, Tuesday, residents stumbled upon Lewinson’s body hanging from a tree by a piece of rope that was tied around its neck.

Investigations are ongoing.
