Jamaica Sports News: Excelsior High School were crowned champions of the Caribbean, after defeating rivals Holmwood Technical 46-27, in the inaugural AFNA champion of champions high school netball final.
The week-long tournament which climaxed on the weekend at the Leila Robinson courts in Kingston, involved 10 teams from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Dominica and St.Lucia.
The champions took control of the game from the opening whistle and were able to outscore their rural area counterparts 13-4 in the first quarter.
This dominance was orchestrated by goal attack Hasana Williams and goal shooter Racoya Douglas, who were able to add another 12 goals to excelsior’s tally, in a second half which saw Holmwood improving somewhat, by scoring 8 goals, thanks to Shadine Bartley and Shoshagaye Forbes.
Excelsior went on to take the third quarter 11-6, for a 36-18 scoreline, before going on to lift the trophy 46-27.
Hasana Williams finished with 28 goals from 40 attempts and teammate Racoya Douglas registered 17 from 29, while the leading scorer for Holmwood was Shadine Bartley with 24 from 42.
In the all-Barbados third place affair, Christ Church Foundation defeated Springer Memorial 31-26.
