Latest Jamaica News, St James: An elderly fisherman who went spear fishing with a friend in a section of the sea, at Whitehouse in Montego Bay, St James, on Sunday, died by drowning, after he met into difficulties and was pulled under the water.

He has been identified as 74-year-old Theo Atkins, of Anguilla Terrace in Cornwall Courts, St James.

Reports by the police are that about 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Atkins and a friend who had gone spear fishing earlier that morning were returning to shore, when he got into difficulties, and was pulled under the water.

The friend raised an alarm and a search was carried out for him, which proved futile.

On Monday, the search team was joined by the marine police, who later recovered Atkins’ body from the water.

His body was taken to the morgue pending a post-mortem examination.
