(McKoy’s News) – Former PM Edward Seaga to be awarded Special Honour: In what could be a very spectacular moment in Jamaica’s 55 Independence Grand Gala celebrations, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange has announced that there will be a special honour being placed upon former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga.
This unique gesture will take place during the Independence Day celebrations at the National Stadium on Sunday, August 6, 2017.
Minister Grange stated that at the celebration of Jamaica 55, which focuses on institutions, infrastructure and icons, is the perfect time for the nation to honour Seaga “for his indisputable legacy in creating this cultural milestone anniversary year.”
The minister further spoke of Seaga as “the father of the Jamaica Festival” stating that he designed the Festival programme “to bring us closer to our roots.
Seaga, who served as Jamaica’s fifth prime minister, will be “recognised as the only living member of the committee that established the constitution of Independent Jamaica and the Jamaica Festival 1963, which the Grand Gala was the closing activity.”
So, in saying thank you to the former Prime Minister, Grange would like Jamaica, as a nation, to recognize Seaga as a “father of the Jamaica Festival, which will be a commemorative activity, continuing to assist the growth and development of our country”.
Gates will open at the National Stadium at 3:00 p.m.
