What the Future Holds for Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 35

Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 35: WrestleMania season is finally here, we are just one month away from WWE’s biggest show of the year. The event will take place on April 7, 2019 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. 5Dimes, one of the most respected sportsbooks today, will offer betting odds for The Show of Shows and one superstar to keep an eye on is Drew McIntyre.

Once deemed as “The Chosen One” by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, McIntyre experienced a fall from grace when the company released him in 2014. McIntyre didn’t stay down for long, he took the time to re-invent himself in other wrestling promotions and it paid off well.

McIntyre spent his first stint in the WWE as a midcard wrestler from 2009 to 2014 and he was a one-time Intercontinental Champion and a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion with Cody Rhodes but he never could reach his full potential and he was eventually released after a failed run with 3MB, a faction of comedy jobbers that included Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater.

McIntyre’s return to WWE on April 1, 2017, when he was shown on-screen sitting in the front row at NXT TakeOver: Orlando, happened after he spent three years proving himself on the independent scene, picking up several championships in promotions like EVOLVE Wrestling, Defiant Wrestling, Insane Championship Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Impact Wrestling and many more, while using his real name Drew Galloway.

Drew McIntyre always wanted to come back to WWE one day but he decided he had to go through NXT first because of the brand’s popularity and the passion of their fans. NXT ended up being another proving ground for him and he knew it would eventually lead to Raw or SmackDown LIVE.

“[NXT] was what I wanted. I told my wife in the beginning when NXT really started catching fire, ‘You know what babe, ideal when I go back there first, if I do my thing here and I get a reputation in the independent scene, then I believe I can get an angle to NXT because it’s such a passionate fan base. I think that would be the place for me to go to really show what I can do. And then when the time is right, because the transition is so much smoother from NXT to RAW and SmackDown because it moves so fast. RAW and SmackDown, there’s so many hours of unique TV every single week all year round.”

While on NXT, McIntyre quickly re-established himself as a legitimate singles star and he won the NXT Championship against Bobby Roode at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III on August 17, 2017 to become the first superstar to have previously been on the main roster to win the championship and the first Scotsman to do so.

McIntyre would lose the title to Andrade “Cien” Almas at an NXT TakeOver event and miss several months due to an injury he sustained during their match but he returned to the main roster on the RAW after WrestleMania on April 9, 2018 and he’s becoming one of the hottest stars on the red brand.

The time is now for Drew McIntyre to get a proper singles run, he has the talent, charisma, mic skills and physique to become a top star in the WWE, but what’s next for him? McIntyre is feuding with The Shield once again, this time with Baron Corbin and Bobby Lashley at his side and he recently attacked the returning Roman Reigns and won a Falls Count Anywhere match against Dean Ambrose.

Since Seth Rollins is already booked for a Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, McIntyre could face Roman Reigns, as the Big Dog doesn’t a match at the showcase of the immortals yet.

A feud between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns would elevate the Scottish Psychopath, Reigns would likely win because he just came back after missing around four months while battling leukemia and WWE won’t have him lose against anyone yet but a good showing can do wonders for McIntyre’s future and he should be a WWE or Universal Champion before this year ends.
