The Political Ombudsman has written to JLP Candidate for St. Thomas East, Dr Michelle Charles, asking her to respond to allegations that she was using state funds to entice people to vote.
Donna Parchment Brown said, in a letter to Dr Charles, that she had seen a report in which Pearnel Charles, Former MP and House Speaker, Dr Charles’ father, was seen giving out cheques from the
Sugar industry Authority (SIA) to which he was not employed. She said further that Dr Charles was seen at the same event urging people to vote for her.
TVJ reported on the event this week and the People’s National Party, citing the report wrote to the Political Ombudsman.
Mrs Parchment Brown wrote to Dr Charles saying if the allegations were true they could amount to a breach of the agreement and declaration on Political Conduct. They could also amount to a breach of the law that prohibits bribery.
