Def champ Manchester drops out of Kingston Wharves U15 Cricket Competition

The fifth and final preliminary round of matches in the 31st Kingston Wharves Under 15 Cricket Competition were played across the island between Monday and Tuesday with eight teams earning their spots in the quarter final which is scheduled for Thursday.

Defending champion Manchester needed to defeat St. Catherine Cricket Association to stay in the hunt for the championship but it was not to be as they were skittled out for 54 runs.  St. Catherine CA replied with 56 for six to win by four wickets and will now move on to the quarter final against St. Elizabeth at Manley Horne Park in St. Elizabeth.

Manchester recorded just two wins out of four matches this year while St. Catherine CA posted two wins, a tied match and a rained out match to end in second place in their Zone.  St. Mary got a bye in the final round but had already topped the zone with three wins and a point from a rained out match.  St. Mary will battle Westmoreland at Boscobel in their quarter final match-up

St. Catherine Cricket Club ended the preliminary round as the only team not to lose any points along the way.  In their final preliminary round match against Kingston & St. Andrew Cricket Association (KSACA), they romped home with the win after KSACA was all out for just 49 runs in reply to St. Catherine CC’s 132 all out.  St. Catherine CC won by 83 runs and will face Kensington at Chedwin Park in St. Catherine.

The second placed team in the zone was Boys Town with three wins under their belt.  Boys Town defeated Melbourne twice and KSACA in the preliminary round matches but lost to St. Catherine CC twice.  Boys Town will take on Kingston in their quarter final match-up at Sabina Park in Kingston.

Results in the other matches in the final preliminary round were:  Kensington defeated Kingston by nine wickets; Portland won their only match in the competition against Lucas by 190 runs; Westmoreland defeated Trelawny by 8 wickets; St. Elizabeth got the better of St. James; Boys Town defeated KSACA by 10 wickets in 1.2 overs and St. Ann beat Clarendon by four wickets.  Clarendon and KSACA are the only teams to not win any matches in the competition.
