Two persons lost their lives, and eighteen others injured, following their involvements in a two-vehicle collision, which occurred along a section of the Barbican main road, in Hanover, on Wednesday morning. June 19.
Those killed have been identified as Kevaughn Sutherland, of High-Level Road, in Sandy Bay, and Everton Riley, otherwise called ” Wanga” bus operator, of a Lucea address, and both in Hanover.
Eighteen other persons, are among those injured, two of whom are critical, and were rushed to the Lucea Hospital, where they were treated, and admitted in serious condition.
Reports by the Sandy Bay police are that about 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Riley was driving a blue Toyota Hiace minibus, which was loaded with passengers, from the directions of Sandy Bay towards Lucea.
On reaching a section of the Barbican main road, in the vicinity of Chukka Blue Adventures Tours, he came on a collision course with a grey Nissan Tida motor car, which was heading from the directions of Lucea, towards Sandy Bay, and driven by Sutherland.
The police reported that Sutherland swerves to avoid hitting a pothole in his lane and collided into the bus.
Both vehicles were severely damaged, resulting in the drivers of both vehicles, and eighteen passengers who were travelling in the bus sustaining injuries.
Riley got trapped in the wreckage of the bus and was cut free by firefighters. Both drivers and the wounded passengers were rushed to Lucea hospital, where Riley and Sutherland, were both pronounced dead.
Two other passengers, are said to be in critical conditions are presently still in the hospital’s intensive care unit, and sixteen other, treated and some admitted in serious but stable condition.
