Latest Jamaica News, Westmoreland: 45-year-old businessman, Steve “Cheeta” Thelwell, a crippled businessman from the parish of Westmoreland, was shot and killed outside his apartment along Norman Manley Boulevard, in Negril, on Wednesday, and his wheelchair assistant shot and injured.
Thelwell who was also shot and injured by gunmen in Springfield, Hanover some time ago, is the sole franchise owner behind the importation of Special Edition motorcycles, from Japan to Jamaica.
The Negril police reported that shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Thelwell and his wheelchair assistant, drove unto the compound of the Sea Scape Apartment where he resided, along Beach Road, off Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril.
His assistant alighted from the car and removed the wheelchair from the rear of the vehicle.
Thelwell was in the process of sitting in his wheelchair, when they were ambushed by two armed men who were at the gate to the apartment.
The gunmen shot the wheelchair attendant once and he managed to run from the scene, and they turned their weapons on the crippled businessman, shooting him multiple times to death.
In the middle of the commotion, which sent persons running for their lives, the men then escaped in the area on a motorcycle.
The police were summoned and upon their arrival, Thelwell and the other injured man were rushed to the Savanna-la-mar hospital, where he was pronounced dead and the other man treated and admitted.
