Criminal Charges Laid Against Truck Driver Who Mowed Down Mother and Daughter in St Catherine

Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: The Spanish Town Police in the parish of St Catherine, have arrested and charged a truck driver, in connection with an accident which resulted in the death of a woman and the injuring of her 3-year-old daughter, on Tuesday, March 26.

The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Major-Mack Bennett, truck driver of Henry Morgan Avenue, in Kingston 11, while the dead female has been identified as 37-year-old Diana Taylor of Morrison Street.

Reports are that about 5:40 p.m., last Tuesday, Bennett was driving a Mitsubishi Fuso truck along Morrison Street, when he lost control of the vehicle and mowed down Taylor and her 3-year-old daughter, who were walking along the roadway.

The police were summoned and upon their arrival, both victims were rushed to hospital, where Taylor died whilst being treated and her daughter admitted in serious condition.

Following a series of investigations, Bennett was charged with causing death by dangerous driving on Wednesday morning. He is booked to appear in court at a later date.
