Jamaica Crime News, St James: The Freeport police in Montego Bay, St. James, on Saturday laid criminal charges against a 21-year-old St James man, who attacked and stabbed another man to death at Westgate, in Montego Bay on Saturday, January 5.
He has been identified as Rahjif Morgan, laborer of Porto Bello, also in St James, and he has been charged with the murder of 21-year-old, U-TECH student, Demar Stennett.
Reports by the police are that about 7:00 a.m., on Saturday, a team of soldiers who are assigned to the Zone of Special Operation, currently taking place in Mount Salem, were carrying out patrols duties along a section of Merriam Way, located in the Westgate area, when they saw the accused, Morgan, standing beside a parked motor car.
Morgan was approached by the soldiers, who inquired why he was at the location and he indicated to them that the vehicle was broken down.
Morgan who had several wounds to his face started to act in a suspicious manner and upon being approached by the soldiers, he ran into nearby bushes.
The soldiers gave chase and after catching up with the Morgan, he lashed out at the military men, inflicting a wound to the mouth of a member of the team.
He was reprimanded and brought back to the location of the parked vehicle, and that was when the soldiers noticed a bloody knife inside the car.
Further investigations in the area, led to the discovery of Stennett’s body, which was lying a few feet away with multiple stab wounds.
The soldiers summoned the police and upon arrival, the scene was processed. Stennett’s body was later removed and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Morgan is booked to appear in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, January 16.
