Crime on the Rise in May Pen, Clarendon

Jamaica News, Clarendon: Central Clarendon Member of Parliament, Mike Henry, admits the crime situation in May Pen is getting out of control.
A few weeks ago 6 persons were shot in broad daylight as persons went about their usual Saturday shopping. The incident also happened meters from where police were on patrol.
But Mr. Henry who also serves as a cabinet minister said that this problem has been brought to the Prime Minister’s attention.

The MP further reasoned that the dragnet in places like North St. Catherine, which is under State of Emergency, is not halting movement of criminals, as they are fleeing to communities in Clarendon.
When asked if the escalating situation in May Pen warrants a state of emergency, he said that such a move remains the decision of the Prime Minister and other relevant national security chiefs.
