St James, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Cop to Hear Verdict Following Corruption Allegations: A judge is to hand down her verdict on Wednesday, July 26 in relation to the case involving a St. James police officer accused of soliciting money from a motorist for the release of his motor vehicle.
Austin Cunningham, a police constable who was attached to the St. James Police division, was arrested in a sting operation on August 23, 2010 by members of the Anti Corruption Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Cunningham was arrested after he illegally seized a motor vehicle from a motorist a week prior to his arrest then demanded $50,000.00 for the release of the vehicle.
Further allegations are that the cop had asked another man to collect the money and while the transaction was in process the man was held by a well-informed Anti-Corruption team.
The man then led the team to where the constable was and identified him.
The constable was arrested and subsequently charged following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
