Two men were arrested by the police for over $13 million stolen from two automated teller machines (ATMs) in two parishes on January 5.
Reports from the police are that the two men, believed to be relatives, were detained during a recent raid in St Ann.
According to reports by the Fraud Squad in Ocho Rios, in the first week of January, three men had gone to an ATM machine in St Ann’s Bay and spray-painted the security cameras and reportedly stole $9.2m after entering a security code.
It is alleged that the men then drove to another ATM machine in Annotto Bay, St Mary, where they stole an additional $4.5m.
Based on the intelligence from the police, they went to the house of a security guard, believed to be a suspect in the robbery, before they conducted a raid and found $4.1m from two safes that were at the mentioned premises.
Both the security guard and his relative, whose names are being withheld pending further investigations, were taken into lock-up.
