Jamaica Crime News, Portland: Detectives attached to the Portland Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion of a container in Kensington district, Portland on Thursday morning.
No one was injured during the explosion , but the police have reported that several houses in the surrounding and a motor truck were damaged.
Reports are that about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, the electricity-operated, 40-foot container which is used as a Riping House for bananas and plantains exploded.
Agriculture Minister to Tackle Illegal Imports
The explosion was overheard from miles around and resulted in the fruits being completely destroyed.
The police say they have not ruled out arson as a motive for the explosion.
