Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: A 24-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend, who appeared in the Western Regional Gun Court on Monday to answer to charges of Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, were remanded into custody until August 10.
The couple were arrested following the seizure of an M-16 assault rifle and a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol at their home in Chi-Chester district on Thursday, July 12.
The two accused have been identified as, Travis Lawson and his common-law wife Kimone McHayle. They have both been charged jointly for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Reports by the police are that about 4:20 a.m. on July 12, a team of officers attached to the Morgans Bridge Police station in Westmoreland, carried out an operation at a premises in Chi-Chester district, which is located on the border of Hanover and Westmoreland.
During the operation, a house which is occupied by Lawson and McHayle was searched and the M-16 assault rifle along with ten live rounds and a Smith and Wesson, 9 mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with two live rounds were seized.
Both accused were taken into custody.
During their first appearance in Court, the judge remanded the common-law couple into custody and set bail application for their next appearance on August 10.
