Jamaica News, Montego Bay: Several disgruntled residents of Montego Bay on St James took to the streets on Wednesday morning, August 22 and lashed out at the Jamaica Public Service Company.
The disgruntled residents stated that from approximately 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, one of the newly erected JPS utility poles collapsed in the middle of the roadway completely blocking Railway Lane, Fish Lane and Light Body Avenue.
The residents say they have made several calls to the JPSco Western Office in Montego Bay, and no one came to address the life-threatening situation.
The utility pole which is one of the new cast poles, is presently still lying across the roadway with live high tension wires dangling from several ends.
The residents say this freak accident which could have resulted in several lives been lost, is a result of very poor work done by the JPS contractors. They pointed out that the hole was not dug deep enough to sustain such a heavy-duty pole.
Several business operators who operate within these areas were left swinging in the wind because customers were afraid to walk in the location of the high tension wires.
