Clarendon Teen Charged For Extortion Attempt

Jamaica Crime News, Clarendon: A 17-year-old boy, who hails from the parish of Clarendon, is now in police custody, after he attempted to extort a doctor in Portmore, St Catherine, on Thursday, June 27.

The name of the accused teen and the doctor are being withheld by the police.

Reports by the Four Paths Police are that about 10:49 a.m. last Thursday, the teen sent a Whatsapp message to the doctor, demanding that he pay him cash amounting to $10,000, along with other threatening messages, if he wants to stay alive.

The police were alerted and the image that was sent by the Whatsapp message was analyzed and the teen later identified.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with, Demanding money with menaces. The accused teen’s cell phone bearing the same used to send the Whatsapp message was also seized.

He is scheduled to appear before the Clarendon Parish Court on Friday, July 15.
