Clarendon Man Attempts to Kill Girlfriend and Then Burn Himself to Death

Jamaica Crime News, Clarendon: A Clarendon man who stabbed his girlfriend almost to death and then set her house on fire, took his own life by setting his own house on fire, on Sunday morning, June 30, in Pleasant Valley, Clarendon.

The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Mark Riley, of the same address, while his girlfriend whose identity has been withheld, is presently at hospital in critical condition.

Reports by the police are that about 4:15 a.m., Riley was at his girlfriend’s home, when an argument developed between them.

It is reported that he drew a knife and used it to stab the female multiple times. Thinking that his girlfriend was dead, he then set her house on fire, before travelling back to his home, which is also located in the same community.

Riley then locked himself inside his own house and set it on fire, which resulted in him being burned to death.

Residents in the community heard the female calling for help and when they went to the location they discovered the house ablaze.

They rescued the woman and took her to hospital. They then saw Riley’s house being engulfed into flames and reported it to the fire department. Upon arrival of the firemen, the blaze was extinguished after over an hour, and Riley’s charred remains found under the burnt rubble.
