Kingston, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Senior Citizen Arrested in Car Stealing Ring: The Revenue Protection Division (RPD) is probing a car-stealing ring following the recent arrest of a 66-year-old man.
The RPD has reported that Anthony Kelly was arrested two weeks ago by RPD detectives who nabbed him with motor vehicle documents that had been stolen from Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) in 2011.
The RPD said its investigations have revealed that between March 2016 and last month, Kelly visited several TAJ offices, where he presented motor vehicle certificates of title, along with authorisation letters or powers of attorney, which suggested that he had authorisation to carry out the respective transfer of motor vehicles.
The RPD said it was detected that the titles which he used were numbered among more than 2,000 motor vehicle certificates of title which were stolen from the TAJ.
In the process, it was discovered that Kelly had sought to transfer titles for six stolen motor vehicles.
The accused man pleaded guilty to uttering forged documents and receiving stolen property when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last week, the RPD advised.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 21.
The RPD said Kelly previously served time in prison for fraud.
