St Catherine, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Bus Driver Shot Dead: The police are probing the fatal shooting of another bus driver at the Linstead Bus Park in St. Catherine on Monday (February 12, 2018) morning.
Bus Driver Shot Dead: Reports are that shortly before 7:00 a.m., a gunman approached the driver as he sat inside the Coaster bus he operated in the Linstead Transportation Centre and shot him. According to some of his colleagues, the driver, known only as Mr Brown, had been operating on the Linstead to Spanish Town route for many, many years. One of the drivers working along that route said: “we are left puzzled as to why anybody would want to kill Mr Brown, that man always keep to himself.”
The incident led to chaos in the area, with people rushing in different directions to get to work and students having to take other routes to get to school. The police have now become concerned as this is the 3rd killing that has taken place inside the Spanish Town Bus Park in less than 4 months.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, 55-year-old Irvin McLagan was shot and killed by gunmen as he stood outside the bus he operated along the Spanish Town to Mandeville route. Then on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, Gary Patterson, 42-year-old bus driver of Sandy Bay, Clarendon, who plied the Spanish Town to May Pen route, was shot and killed by a lone gunman while exiting the bus park with passengers, at approximately 8:50 p.m.
How coincidental that both men were killed on the same date, a day after and three months in between.
There is now growing fear among operators of public passenger vehicles as they feel they are being targeted and not knowing what has started the motive behind these attacks on bus drivers at the bus parks in St Catherine.
