Jamaica Sports News: After 10 weeks of intense competition, involving 16 teams from communities in North East St.Elizabeth, it was Brighton who emerged champions of the inaugural Basil Waite football under lights community league.
In the final which was played before a capacity crowd at the Santa Cruz Community Centre, they beat Hot Dog one nil, thanks to a first-half goal from Reneilo Stone.
Brighton was rewarded with one hundred thousand dollars and the Basil Waite championship trophy, while beaten finalist Hot Dog received fifty thousand dollars.
The competition’s leading goal scorer was Kadeem Stone. He was presented with a five thousand dollar cash award.
In the third place playoff, it was Foster Park who prevailed on penalties over Bashment, after a nil-all regulation scoreline. They pocketed thirty thousand dollars, while Bashment received fifteen thousand.
The masters from Munro and Steths were also in action and they provided the spectators with some very entertaining football. When the final whistle was blown, it was the Munro Masters, led by Basil Waite, who came away winners, courtesy of a first-half goal from Dr. Dwaine Spencer.
