A man died in a fiery crash while trying to get away from an angry mother of a 12-year-old girl, police said.
Officers responded to a single-car crash at Eastex Freeway and Chinn Lane at 4:32 a.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

“Upon arrival, first responders located a silver Buick GS with severe front end damage in the northbound lanes of the construction area,” the release said. “The vehicle caught fire and was quickly engulfed. Beaumont Fire Department.
A man who was the only person in the car died in the crash. An investigation revealed the driver was fleeing an angry mother who had caught the driver trying to make contact with her 12-year-old daughter, police said.
The driver entered a part of the highway that is under construction and hit an unimproved section of the road, causing the crash. BPD has not released the name of the driver pending a positive identification and notifying next of kin.
