Rev Dr Paul Gardner, ex-president of the Jamaica Moravian church, and his deputy Jermaine Gibson are facing the charge of having sex with the same girl when she was 12 and 14 years old.
Gardner and Gibson who appeared before the Manchester Parish Court on Wednesday to face the charge of carnal abuse were both extended bail until their next court date, next Wednesday.
Bother Gardner and Gibson who resigned their post at the church together, were arrested together on Monday, January 23, and charged with having sex in 2002 with the girl when she was 12 and, in 2004 when she was 14 years old.
The men are accused of allegedly sexually abusing the same girl at different times in her life. Gibson allegedly first committed the carnal abuse act with the girl in 2002 when she was 12 years old, and Garner allegedly abused her when she turned 14-years-old.
These allegations broke as another pastor Rupert Clarke of the Jamaican Moravian Church was caught in St. Elizabeth by the police, as he parked on a lonely road in a compromising position with a minor of his church. As investigations continued into the incident, he was charged with carnal abuse of her and sister. That pastor has a leaked video circulating on the internet with him having sex with the minor.
Gardner and his attorneys have called the allegation of him having sex with a 14 year old church member, false and vindictive, and have vowed to clear his “good” name. He states that he has resigned as president of the Moravian Church in the best interest of the church.
