Bahamas Crime Increase

Bahamas(Mckoy’s News) – Bahamas Crime Increase: The Bahamas is struggling to cope with a spike in murders.
The country has reported 66 murders since January this year representing a 22% increase compared with the same period last year.
Minister of National Security in Bahamas Marvin Dames presented the figures in the House of Assembly last night during his contribution to the Budget Debate. The murder count in the country has exceeded 100 for each of the last 5 years. In 2015, the country recorded just under 150 murders; the highest in recorded history.
A recent crime study shows that between 2010 and 2015, 78% of murder victims in Bahamas died as a result of bullet wounds.
Mr. Dames said 160 firearms and 4,154 rounds of ammunition have been seized in operations so far in 2017.
