Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Man Before Court For AssaultA St. James man who allegedly inflicted knife wounds to a woman then drove his car on a man after he intervened to assist her, made a brief appearance in the St. James Parish Court on Friday.

The matter was referred to mediation on a previous mention date and Tugwell had agreed to compensate the male complainant in the amount of $1.2 million with monthly payments, which he has been doing.

During Friday’s sitting, the 22-year-old Tugwell handed over $40,000 to the complainant.  He has a remaining balance of $525,000.

He was told by Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small to bring $40,000 on his next court date.

Allegations are that on August 21, 2013, Tugwell was at a bar in Spring Mount when a dispute developed between him and the female complainant, who was also at the bar.  The dispute escalated into a fight causing the woman to sustain cuts and bruises and at that point, the male complainant intervened.

Soon after, the male complainant went outside and was standing along the roadway when Tugwell entering his car then drove in the direction of the male complainant the car swung from the left side onto the ride side of the road where the complainant was standing hitting him down.

Tugwell then sped away in a reckless manner and crashed the car and was apprehended by the police.

The complainant reportedly received injuries to his neck, shoulders and ribs.

In regards to the unlawful wounding charge in relation to the female, no further evidence was offered in an earlier court appearance.
