Jamaica Crime News, St Andrew: Two armed robbers who reportedly attempted to rob a group of shoppers in broad daylight, on a busy Plaza in the Half Way Tree area on Thursday morning of July 5th, were shot and injured after they challenged members of a police party on a shootout.

The Half Way Tree Police say the names of the wounded robbers who are presently at hospital under police guard are not yet known.

Reports by the police are that shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, the two armed men went to a busy Plaza area at Half Way Tree and held up a group of shoppers at gunpoint.

The men were in the process of robbing the shoppers when an alarm was raised and a team of officers who were in the area responded.  Upon seeing the lawmen approaching, the gunmen challenged them in a heated gunbattle and they were both shot and injured.

The police received a semi-automatic pistol loaded with several rounds of ammunition from the armed robbers who were transported to hospital where they were admitted under police guard.
