Armed Robber Posing As Taxi Operator Fatally Shot in St  James

Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Armed Robber Posing As Taxi Operator: An unidentified man, who the police say they believe is one of the armed robbers who have been travelling around St James in a white Tiida motor car,  posing as taxi operators and robbing commuters, was fatally shot when he challenged the police in  Norwood community on Thursday evening.

The police also reported that a  9mm semi-automatic pistol, serial number DUS 438, which contained 13 live 9mm rounds, was taken from the armed
robber.

The police report that at about 6:30 pm on Thursday, just hours after a description of the white Tiida motor vehicle was released to the public, residents alerted them that a car fitting the description was spotted in the area.

The lawmen responded and went to a section of Norwood known as Hollywood. They proceeded on foot into a lane and spotted three men removing items from the car.

On seeing the lawmen approaching, the men opened fire.  The fire was returned, and the unidentified gunman was shot. The other two men kept on firing at the police and managed to escape in bushes.

The wounded gunman, who was found clutching the weapon, is of dark complexion and has a round face. He is believed to be about 5ft 10ins tall and clad in a short blue cut off pants, a black Merino, Black and white T-shirt and black shoes.

A search of the area where the other gunmen ran, led to the discovery of a 9mm magazine containing 9 live 9mm rounds.

The wounded gunman was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A team attached to INDECOM are now
carrying out investigations into this latest shooting.
