Update: Armed Robber Shot by Police Dies at Hospital

Montego Bay, St James (Mckoy’s News)Armed Robber Shot by Police: The Barnett Street police are now reporting that, the armed robber who challenged the police in a shootout on Friday night after he robbed several commuters at gunpoint, in the Montego Bay Transport Centre, succumb to gunshot injuries at the Cornwall Regional Hospital on Monday morning, May 22.

Investigator also stated that, the gunman has now been positively identified as Gavin Duffus, 33-year-old laborer of a Burnt Savannah address in Westmoreland.

Reports are that, about 8:00 pm on Friday, a number of commuters in the Transport Centre informed a team of police that a man was robbing persons at gunpoint in the park.

Several of the commuters, secretly pointed out Duffus to the police who approached him in a bid to apprehend him.

Duffus realizing that he was in the process of being caught, fired at the police and ran from the Transport Centre in the direction of Creek Street. On reaching the intersection of Creek Street and St. Clavers Avenue, Duffus turned and again fired at the police, this time allegedly injuring a male civilian in the process.

The police took evasive action and fired several shots hitting him to the upper body and he fell to the ground.

An illegal firearm which he was clutching was taken from him.  Duffus and the wounded civilian were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition under police guard and the civilian admitted in stable condition.
