Armed Robber Arrested in St Elizabeth

St Elizabeth, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – A 27-year-old laborer who hails from the parish of St Elizabeth, was on March 8, arrested by the police and an illegal firearm taken from him, minutes after he reportedly held up and robbed two elderly residents in Middle Quarters.

Reports by the Santa Cruz police are that about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, the armed robber held up and robbed both senior citizens at gunpoint.  He then released them of cash amounting to over $70,000 along with their jewelry and other personal items.

The robber was in the process of fleeing the scene, when a team of police officers who were driving by, noticed the elderly couple running and screaming, and also saw the robber running.

The robber was chased and held by the officers.  A search of his person led to the discovery of a Glock 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, loaded with a magazine containing 17 live 9mm rounds.The stolen items were also recovered on his person.

Meanwhile, the police say they have since charged the accused with Armed Robbery, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The identity of the robber cannot be released because he may have to face several identification parades.
